Works in Progress
My in-progress project Heterotopia of Deviations (2025) - titled after a Michel Foucault concept of the same name - is a series of multi-sensory artworks inspired by vintage photos related to disabled embodiment and disability history. With photos ranging from found vintage family snapshots to original press photos of Disability Rights protests, the project aims to explore Disability kinship beyond the barriers of socially created isolation. I intertwine domestic-associated art techniques with more “public” media such as painting and photojournalism. The multi-sensory artworks will employ common practices from the disability community, such as image description, art touch tours, Audio Description, and accessible web design, to build a creative, “access-centered” experience.
Below are current works-in-progress from this series. (Please forgive the lack of image descriptions, as these are not completed artworks.)
